A woman has suffered severe burns to her face, neck and arms after she had acid thrown over her during a night out.
Witnesses saw a man throw the acid outside the Turtle Bay bar and restaurant in Southampton.
Staff from the bar gave first aid before an ambulance arrived and decribed her injuries as "horrific".
A bar worker said: "The acid was in her whole face and eyes - she's probably going to be blinded.
"Neither her nor her attacker were actually guests here, we were just helping out and providing first aid treatment. She said it was two men.
"Her face looked like it was melting; it was quite clear there was a lot of damage. It happened just outside in the middle of the square."
The incident happened at 9pm on Friday.
The man, who is believed to have known the woman, then fled the scene.
Hampshire Police described it as a "rare and isolated" attack.
The victim, age 37, was taken to Southampton General Hospital.
Police and firefighters were called to the scene and set up a cordon outside the restaurant while they investigated.
Firefighters used a hose reel to wash around a quarter of a pint of acid from the pavement.
