Outgoing Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) says the prospect of being ousted from his leadership position was not a factor in his decision to step down.

“Look, winning that vote was never an issue,” Boehner said on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday. “I was going to get the overwhelming number of – I would have gotten 400 votes, probably.”

The Speaker said stepping down was in the best interest of his colleagues in the House, who would be forced to vote whether to retain him.

Boehner also called the right wing of the House GOP “unrealistic” in their expectation to pass conservative legislation in a divided government.

“Absolutely, they’re unrealistic!” he exclaimed. “The Bible says beware of false prophets, and there are people out there spreading noise about how much can get done. This whole notion that we’re going to shut down the government to get rid of ObamaCare in 2013, that plan never had a chance.”

Boehner said the American system of government was designed to usher in change slowly.

“Our Founders didn’t want some sort of parliamentary system where if you got the majority, you got to do whatever you wanted,” he said. “They wanted this long, slow process. And so change comes slowly and obviously too slowly for some.”

Members of the House Freedom Caucus and some GOP presidential candidates have threatened to shut down the government over federal funding of Planned Parenthood.

Boehner on Friday announced he would retire from Congress in early October. The decision came a day after Pope Francis addressed a joint session of Congress, which was a crowning achievement for the Catholic Speaker.

BS, guys like Bohener have only one thing in the life that matters, POWER. If he could get 400 votes he would have not been fired. He went out by resigning to save some face but would have been fired by the conservatives and the LIBS would have to save his  arse. That being said beware of McCarthy he is just as bad if not worst than the Boneer. Also, Boner also saw what was coming in 2016 with the probability of a CONSERVATIVE POTUS and he wants no part of that and decided to cash out NOW! :patriot:

What a pyle of cr4p.  If he had the votes he would still be in. Power is what these people feed on.

Yet what Boehner has done while speaker was  fast, not a slow process. Giving the tea party types the finger in the eye by giving obama everything he wants. Boehner will give obama everything he wants before he leaves Oct 31.  Payback to the anti-GOPe types. You can count on a global warming tax. Amnesty. PP funding. and whatever else is on the list.

One more thing, if he was sincere he would have quit that day. Not 30 days later.

Obamacare was not a slow, deliberative process.  Taking the debt from $10 trillion to $20 trillion was not slow.  How about an executive order granting amnesty to over a million people?  All of this was done practically overnight.  And that which has been slow is the slow and deliberate march of socialism, never progress in the other direction, which has been non-existent under Boehner's stewardship.

Serious question. Why was Barack Hussein Obama able to inflict so much destruction so quickly? With virtually no opposition? I have an answer in mind, but I'd like to compare with others.

First black president.  No one wanted to be seen as obstructing his agenda.  I remember how controversial it was when Rush Limbaugh was the only one willing to say he wanted to see him fail.  that turned out to be a rather prescient statement.

Bingo!

It all comes back to political correctness, affirmative-action, and Kumbaya, and teaching the world to sing, and sharing a bottle of Coke.

Trump and Carson are way cool in that regard. They could be at the leading edge of a movement to stop this Islamophobia meme crapola that threatens America's future.
