In an interview with the Yale college newspaper published on Friday, Weather Underground terrorist group co-founder Bill Ayers said he believes his association with Barack Obama got the politician elected president in 2008.
“That whole narrative blew up because no one could figure out how to run against Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton started it all by saying we don’t know who this guy is and he has sketchy friends (myself),” Ayers told the weekend supplement of the Yale Daily News, referring to controversy over his relationship with Obama.
“I like to think that his association with me got him elected,” Ayers added.
The anti-American radical claimed Obama is a centrist and not a far-leftist, and therefore he was not disappointed with the president’s time in office so far since his hopes were not high.
Ayers stated: “Barack Obama is exactly who he said he was when he ran for president. He said, ‘I’m a moderate, middle-of-the-road, pragmatic politician.’ I did know him back then, and his record in Illinois reflects this.”
“The right wing looked at him through 2008 and today as a secret Muslim and secret socialist with black nationalist tendencies, and the left saw him as winking in my direction. He wasn’t, and his record shows that. Many liberals were disappointed, but I’m neither a liberal nor disappointed.”
Ayers used the interview to proudly affirm his continued socialist, communist and anarchist leanings.
“I think labels are weak and lazy, and they don’t capture the complexity of what it means to be a First Amendment fundamentalist that is also a socialist, anarchist and communist,” he said. “But I am all of those things.”

“If you were to insist on labeling me, when it comes to economics, I’m a socialist. When it comes to government, I’m a bit of an anarchist. When it comes to [the] First Amendment I’m a fundamentalist.”
Sounding off on politics and current events, Ayers described the two recent Republican presidential debates as “Comical or tragic. Comatragic. It’s a rabid racist statement to the bottom.”
He called Donald Trump a “megalomaniac.”
The revolutionary and retired college professor said he thinks its “great that Bernie Sanders is exciting people.”
“Socialism is a common view,” he added, “and the fact that Bernie Sanders is speaking about wage inequality and war and peace is good. I don’t think he’s clear on questions of race and racism. I don’t think he’s bringing that to the table nor excites a base that could be important to him.”
Obama worked closely with Ayers
WND was first to report that from 1999 to Dec. 11, 2002, Obama was a paid director of the Woods Fund, a Chicago non-profit where he served alongside Ayers.
Before that, working at the Chicago Annenberg Challenge in 1995, Obama had a close relationship with Ayers, according to the CAC’s archived records. The records also show Obama’s and Ayers’ foundation granted money to radical leftist activist causes.
News reports, archived records, interviews and Ayers’ own curriculum vitae document that Ayers was a founder of the CAC, which billed itself as a school-reform organization. Ayers also served as co-chairman of the Chicago School Reform Collaborative, one of the two operational arms of the CAC, from its formation in 1995 until 2000.
Ayers made presentations to board meetings chaired by Obama. Ayers also spoke for the Chicago School Reform Collaborative before Obama’s board, while Obama periodically spoke for the board at meetings of the collaborative, according to CAC documents.
According to the documents, first reviewed by National Review Online writer Stanley Kurtz, the CAC granted money to far-left causes, such as the now-defunct Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, which, WND previously reported, had done work on behalf of Obama’s presidential campaign.
WND broke the story that while Obama chaired the board of the CAC, more than $600,000 was granted to an organization founded by Ayers and run by Mike Klonsky, a former top communist activist. Klonsky was leader of the Marxist-Leninist Communist Party, which was effectively recognized by China as the all-but-official U.S. Maoist party.

The Woods Fund and the CAC, however, were not Obama’s only working relationships with the unrepentant terrorist, Ayers.
The two appeared together as speakers at several public events, including a 1997 University of Chicago panel titled “Should a child ever be called a ‘super predator?’” and another panel for the University of Illinois in April 2002 titled “Intellectuals: Who needs them?”
Ayers has written about his involvement with the Weather Underground’s bombings of the New York City Police headquarters in 1970, the Capitol in 1971 and the Pentagon in 1972.
“I don’t regret setting bombs. I feel we didn’t do enough,” Ayers told the New York Times in an interview released Sept. 11, 2001.
“Everything was absolutely ideal on the day I bombed the Pentagon,” Ayers wrote in his memoirs, titled “Fugitive Days.” He continued with a disclaimer that he didn’t personally set the bombs but that his group set the explosives and planned the attack.
