Danish municipality paid 1.3 million for Gore to talk about climate change - Nobody paid to listen

Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality paid DKK 1.3 million to former US Vice President Al Gore to go on stage in the cultural center to talk about climate change, shows a report from Dagbladet Ringkøbing-Skjern.

But nobody was interested of hearing Gore speak.

The State Administration has just ruled on the case, which forces the mayor, Iver Enevoldsen, and the municipality, to disclose the price. It happens after Dagbladet on several occasions has complained to the State Administration about the secrecy of Gores fee.

"We abide course to the state administration's decision. We have no intentions of keeping the price confidential. We had all the time information of the deficit of the event. But it was a condition of the contract, which we accepted. We will after the the state administration's decision be aware next time, "says Iver Enevoldsen.

The mayor will not guess what the consequences will be to Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality, now that the price has been made public.

"We abide to the decision by the State Administration, if we risk a lawsuit, I have no opinion," said the mayor.

Former UN weapons inspector, Hans Blix, who also gave lectures at the same event, cost the municipality DKK 149,000.

The day with Al Gore and Hans Blix gave Ringkøbing-Skjern a total loss of DKK 1.46 million. The municipality choose to fill the many empty seats with school students, for free.
