This is the ad that could kill Carly Fiorina’s campaign

Carly Fiorina is the new "it" candidate in the Republican presidential field, following a second straight sterling debate performance at the Ronald Reagan presidential library Wednesday night.

But there was a moment in the debate that previewed a major potential weakness for Fiorina. It came when moderator Jake Tapper noted that Donald Trump had said Fiorina "ran HP into the ground" during her time as CEO. Fiorina responded, "I led Hewlett Packard through a very difficult time, the worst technology recession in 25 years," adding: "We had to make tough choices, and in doing so, we saved 80,000 jobs, went on to grow to 160,000 jobs."

Trump -- and Tapper -- largely let the issue drop. But Fiorina's past political history suggests that her struggles at HP could be a campaign killer.

In 2010, Fiorina was running surprisingly close to California Sen. Barbara Boxer (D), who was struggling in a strong election cycle for Republicans nationally. Then, Boxer ran this ad focused on Fiorina's time at the helm of HP.

(video here)

The commercial notes that Fiorina laid off 30,000 workers at HP while feathering her own nest (the ad's narrator says she tripled her salary) and buying a "million-dollar yacht" and "five corporate jets." It went up on TV in the middle of September and effectively ended Fiorina's chances.

Well.  She made the comment that she went from a secretary to being a CEO of a multi-national corporation. She has a net worth of over $50 million. She has been hailed by Time Magazine and Forbes for her vast accomplishments.  Yes, the ad is very damaging and it is a fact that she was fired as CEO.  She was in charge when over 3,000 employees lost their jobs. One thing that struck me last night during the debate is she spoke out of turn, not once but several times giving no regard to the impact that it may have had on the other candidates ... the only regard she seemed to have was for herself.

I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

Worked though.  Seems like she outsmarted them.  One ambitious lady.

It's amazing how people on "our" side will believe a Barbara Boxer campaign ad rather than a GOP candidate who challenges their own favorite. It's not like Babs or any other leftist Democrat would lie and spin about a Republican opponent during a campaign, right?
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

I just said it is a tough ad.  It wouldn't have any effect on me more than likely.

Fiorina's record at HP was definitely mixed.  She was forced out, and the company's performance during her tenure was well below expectations.  However, the thing that really killed her was the Compaq acquisition, which years later turned out to be visionary as HP went on to become the nation's premier manufacturer of PCs, surpassing Dell.  This would not have happened had the company not acquired the competencies from Compaq.  So Carly can rightly claim that her strategy worked, and that in the end the HP brand (legacy) survived and Compaq's brand disappeared.

The fact still remains that Fiorina was paid several million dollars a year while she laid workers off; not just a couple but thousands and I'm sure enjoys her two yachts.
