Police in Colorado are on high alert.

Colorado police departments in Aurora and Denver are on high alert after a mystery caller telephoned 911 with a chilling warning, threatening to “start striking fear” and shooting “all the cops” caught alone in the community.

The threat, which spanned 37 seconds, came by way of a disguised male voice.

“It’s time you guys know that we are no longer playing around with the police departments,” the voice said, a recording of the caller indicated. “Aurora and Denver, we are about to start striking fear, shooting down all cops that we see by theirselves. You guys are evicting innocent people. Let us catch you by yourself, and it’s shots fired.”

About four hours later, Aurora police officers were fired upon while responding to a call, 9News reported.

Aurora police spokeswoman Diana Cooley said officers responded to a call of gunfire in their community shortly after that apparent threat, and shots were fired toward them.

One local police officer responded with defiance, saying on a nationally broadcast interview: “I’m not going to go away. I’m not going to quit.”

And Aurora Police Association president Bob Wesner said to FOX31 he wasn’t “surprised by the call” because “people make threats to police all the time,” and officers were taking it seriously.
