Tim Tebow Appears to Have Won Spot on Eagles Roster
« on: September 05, 2015, 04:44:52 am »
"PHILADELPHIA (TheBlaze/AP) — Looks like Tim Tebow made Matt Barkley expendable.

The Philadelphia Eagles traded Barkley to the Arizona Cardinals on Friday, clearing a roster spot for Tebow after he apparently won a preseason competition for the No. 3 quarterback job."

Ok, good for Tim, but the rest of the headline is: "and Twitter Is Reacting"

Some are pleased, others not so much. But what I find amusing about the negative comments is that the NFL has its share of bad boys, thugs really, and I just wonder if they receive as much attention on Twitter as this news about Tebow.

I am sure the NFL has more players that are "Christians" besides just this one guy, so why all the fuss?

I'm quite sure Tebow's Christianity has little to do with his ability to actually play the game. God's more a cricket fan.

Oh, puhlease. "God's more a cricket fan." Next thing you'll be telling us is that He prefers soccer over American football.

Ben Roethlisberger of Rape fame and Michael Vick of dog murder and animal cruelty fame are the quarterbacks for Pittsburgh.  So I don't think the presence of Tebow on a roster should be too great a stain on the NFL.  Well except to the teeming masses of left wingers out there, since to them being Christian is a capital crime with no ameliorating circumstances possible.

I think he finds both of those sports rather coarse. God is, after all, a gentleman.  :tongue2:

In that case I assume He is even less fond of rugby.

You're right, many of the most prominent NFL players are devout Christians. Russell Wilson, for example.

I think a lot of it comes from Tebow's unconventional skill set and his ability to win games despite it. He's a classic underdog, and the fact that he's a Christian is just a hook, something his supporters can latch onto, especially with as secular as this world is getting.

"Report: Tim Tebow cut by Eagles"

"Two full seasons after he last appeared in a meaningful NFL game, Tim Tebow's playing career is back on hold.

Tebow was among the Philadelphia Eagles' final cuts to their 53-man roster Saturday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported, placing the quarterback back on a market that has been reticent to give him a chance.

Eagles coach Chip Kelly elected to keep two quarterbacks - Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez - on his roster for the time being. Matt Barkley, a fourth-round pick in 2013, was traded Friday to the Arizona Cardinals.

An NFL team still could sign Tebow after teams set their 53-man rosters, but it's unclear whether there's any interest in the signal-caller."
