The State Department is asking for a single judge to handle all the cases regarding the emails of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, The Washington Times reports.

The department said it is "struggling" to keep up with the orders being put out by 17 separate judges on 32 different cases, Justice Department lawyer Marsha Edney told Judge Reggie B. Walton during a hearing on one of the cases on Thursday.

Putting all the cases under the purview of one judge would bring "order" to the process, the State Department says.

Walton said that isn't likely to happen since he's heard that many of of the judges don't want to give up their cases.

He placed the blame on Clinton, the current Democratic presidential frontrunner, for using a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state.

"If this private server had not been used, we wouldn't be in this situation," Walton said.

Clinton said she had staff members remove her personal email from the server before printing out work-related correspondence and turning it over to the State Department. She said she then wiped the server's hard drive.
