PETA: Bear Grylls’s show ‘last place’ for President Obama to be seen

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is blasting President Obama’s planned appearance on “Running Wild with Bear Grylls,” calling the NBC series one of Grylls’s “demeaning,” “sexist,” and “disgusting” shows.

As part of a three-day trip to Alaska, Obama will meet with the TV survivalist “to observe the effects of climate change on the area,” according to a Monday NBC news release. The episode, scheduled to air later this year, will show the commander in chief receiving a “crash course in survival techniques” from Grylls.

PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said on Monday in a statement, “Bear Grylls' shows are known as the bottom of the barrel in demeaning sexist, speciesist, and who knows what other ‘-ist’ TV reality shows — and that's certainly saying something.”

Grylls’s show features the globetrotting adventurer playing host to celebrities in “the most remote and pristine locations in the U.S. and around the world for a 48-hour journey of a lifetime,” NBC says in a promotional site.
