Report: Clinton camp claims to have fifth of Dem delegates
By Jesse Byrnes
Hillary Clinton's campaign is claiming that she has secured one-fifth, or at least 440, of the superdelegates needed for the Democratic presidential nomination, Bloomberg News reported Friday.
Current and former elected officials, committee officeholders, and other party members make up the pledges, which include those not yet made public, according to Bloomberg.
Clinton campaign aides are privately briefing uncommitted superdelegates at this week's Democratic National Committee meeting in Minneapolis about the overall figure, Bloomberg reported.
The former secretary of State is speaking at the meeting Friday, along with rivals for the nomination Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley and former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee.
While the numbers can fluctuate and delegates can change allegiances, Clinton's campaign is seeking to project a dominating edge in the race, where she has long been the front-runner.
Vice President Biden is also considering whether to enter the 2016 fray, with a decision expected sometime next month.
