A Halloween Tale
« on: October 31, 2015, 01:29:15 am »
I wrote this last Halloween and posted it then.  I thought you might enjoy it again this Halloween season.

SHE WALKS
A Halloween Tale
by Lea D.

She walks in the heavy warm night air,
a full moon’s silvery light illuminates her way.
Silently, and with clear intent, she crosses the meadow.
The faint scent of jasmine lingers in her wake,
and her long black hair flows like ink spilling down her back.

She walks to a gate as her steps start to quicken,
the night creatures fall silent as she passes.
Blind to falling stars streaking the sky,
she enters the gate and only the hushed rustle
of her silk gown breaks the stillness of the night.

She walks past the white marble stones before her,
and moves toward one stone where a seraphic angel
looks down in repose – here, at last!
She is drawn to the grave - and the stars, and the moon,
and even time itself, stops momentarily - for an eternity.

She walks quickly now, pale arms reach
and she coos a soft greeting to a faint wee whimper.
A mother’s love stronger than the bonds of life and death,
the babe finally in her arms, serene with the dulcet sounds
of a lullaby faintly audible in the still night.

She walks through the night as the moon crosses the sky,
fire-flies drift around her in the warm night air,
until their evanescence in the approaching new day.
Daylight coming, she moves slowly back to the angel stone,
and tenderly gives up the child to her eternal resting place.

She walks again past the stones to the gate, the sun’s fire
rising in the east as the day creatures start to awaken.
Slower now, rustling silk and faint jasmine, she moves
back across the meadow, glassy eyes and ice in her veins,
and she slowly vanishes into the morning mist - as she walks.
