PETA Wants a Memorial Made for Pigs Who Died in Highway Accident Posted on August 26

A truck was transporting about 80 pigs in Pennsylvania when it overturned, killing several of the pigs. One escaped but was euthanized along with those that were fatally injured. Those remaining were loaded onto another truck.
PETA saw this as an opportunity to remind people not to eat animals. If people were vegan, this tragic accident – that also left the driver injured – wouldn’t have happened.
They want to build, with the Pennsylvania DOT’s permission, a 5-foot stone memorial for those pigs that died tragically. Their letter stated:

They’ve done this sort of thing before. In California a few years ago, a truck carrying about 1,600 pounds of bass overturned, and all the fish ended up dying. PETA wanted a memorial to them as well. They argued:
“Research tells us that fish use tools, tell time, sing, and have impressive long-term memories and complex social structures, yet fish used for food are routinely crushed, impaled, cut open, and gutted, all while still conscious. Sparing them from being tossed from a speeding truck and slowly dying from injuries and suffocation seems the least that we can do.”
They wanted the memorial to read: “In memory of hundreds of fish who suffered and died at this spot.”
If PennDOT grants PETA permission to erect their 5-foot tombstone memorial, would it be a hate crime to visit it and decorate it with bacon, ham, and pork chops? Of course, I wouldn’t want to do that. What a terrible waste of such a tasty meat.
