JIHAD IN AMERICA: LAWMAKERS IDENTIFY DOZENS OF POTENTIAL TERRORISTS LIVING IN THE USA - WHY ARE THEY STILL HERE?

Personal LibertySenators Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) say they’ve used publicly available information to identify dozens of people who have links to terror organizations living in the United States thanks to the nation’s broken immigration system. “Based on publicly available information, we have identified at least 72 individuals in the United States who, over the last year: have engaged in or attempted to engage in acts of terrorism; conspired or attempted to conspire to provide material support to a terrorist organization; engaged in criminal conduct inspired by terrorist ideology; or who have been sentenced for any of the foregoing. We would like to understand more about these individuals, and others similarly situated in recent history, and the nexus between terrorism and our immigration system,” they wrote in a letter to the Departments of Justice, State and Homeland Security.

The lawmakers produced a chart identifying 22 naturalized citizens with terror ties in war-torn and Muslim nations. As many as 50 more potential terror sympathizers are living in the U.S. under “unknown” immigration status or were American-born and have apparent ties to terrorist strongholds. Many of the terror suspects identified by Sessions and Cruz hail from places like Bosnia, Sudan, Syria, Somalia, Yemen, Uzbekistan, Iraq and Cuba. Sessions and Cruz have asked the DOJ, DHS and State Department to compile information, including immigration status, on the 72 people identified in the chart. The lawmakers’ effort comes after a series of congressional hearings on a growing threat of homegrown Islamic terror in the U.S. --------------------------------------------
