Former Arkansas governor and current Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee is heading to Israel in order raise money for his campaign and discuss the Iranian nuclear deal with senior officials, The Washington Post reported Sunday.

"We’re going to be doing some fundraising but more importantly, I’ll also be visiting with a number of officials and discussing the Iranian deal," Huckabee said during an interview with CNN, adding  "I think it is the most dangerous situation that we face, not just for the Middle East but for the rest of the world for a long time. This is essentially arming and equipping a terrorist state."

Huckabee is expected to arrive in Tel Aviv Tuesday for a "couple of days" and has not revealed with whom he will meet.

The Republican candidate is a frequent visitor to Israel, having visited the country for decades, The Post added.

"This isn't a departure from the (campaign) trail. This is the trail," according to Huckabee spokesman J. Hogan Gidley.
