Pollster Zogby: Trump Set to Steamroll Rivals in GOP Debate

Donald Trump's success in the presidential polls stems from his ability to always turn negatives into positives — a skill the billionaire developer will use to ace the first GOP debate, veteran pollster John Zogby tells Newsmax TV.

"I don't think he can possibly lose on Thursday night. [If he] puts his foot in his mouth, he is able to finesse that," Zogby, CEO of Zogby Analytics, said Tuesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"He's able to turn anything negative into a positive."

But Zogby is skeptical that Trump, who has dramatic leads against his opponents in the most recent presidential polls, can stay on top.

"It's got to fizzle, honestly, sometime in the fall … How long can he sustain getting this kind of media attention?" Zogby said.

But, for now, it is continuing.

"We have a poll out … [with] Trump leading by 9 points over [former Florida Gov.] Bush," Zogby told Steve Malzberg.

"We ask, who do you think is going to win the debate on Thursday? … They say Trump will win. Who do you think will get the most publicity the day after the debate? Sixty-seven percent say Donald Trump."

In the Democratic race, Zogby believes that Hillary Clinton's diminishing popularity in recent polls "certainly does open the door for [Vice President] Joe Biden."

"And if Joe for personal reasons decides against it, the door is opened for somebody else … Right now, she is running against herself and she's not winning," Zogby said.

"Her numbers are going down, her personal numbers are going down. Once you lose trust as she has not only nationwide but in those key states that Quinnipiac [University polled], you don't get that trust back."

Last week's Quinnipiac poll showed that 57 percent of respondents said the former first lady was not honest and trustworthy — and 52 percent said she did not care about their needs or problems.
