A woman shot in the head by her husband during a murder-suicide died from her injuries Tuesday afternoon at an area hospital, authorities say.
Montgomery County Police were called to the Washingtonian Express gas station at 20510 N. Frederick Road (Rt 355) in Germantown about 12:24 p.m.
The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds, police say.
The female shooting victim was taken to the hospital in grave condition, police said via Twitter. Police said about 2:30 p.m. that the woman had died from her wounds.
Detectives believe the wife was shot by her husband while she was in a car.
WUSA reports the woman pleaded for her life before the man shot her, and then shot himself in the head.
Police say the unidentified couple arrived at the gas station with a 16-year-old girl who was a family member. The teen was sent into the store to pay for gas. As the couple remained in the vehicle they argued, which culminated with the man shooting his wife.
An off-duty Montgomery County police officer in a marked cruiser was parked in a lot adjacent to the gas station. Once the officer heard a shot he approached the vehicle, which is when the man shot and killed himself.
No one else was injured. The off-duty officer did not discharge his firearm.
The names of the victims will be released once family members have been notified, police said.
