BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA is trying to make the Islamic holiday of Eid (last day of Ramadan) an official American national holiday before he leaves office

By Shoebat Foundation on July 18, 2015 in General

By BI: Barack Hussein Obama wishes Muslims in America and around the world “Eid Mubarak!” or blessed Eid, praising efforts to recognize the end of Ramadan as an official national holiday.

AFP “The holiday is a reminder to every American of the importance of respecting those of all faiths and beliefs,” he said in a statement that also hailed New York City’s decision to add Eid to the official school calendar.

That, he said, was “an acknowledgement of the great diversity and inclusiveness that adds to the richness of our nation.” Mayor Bill de Blasio in March made New York the first major city in America to mark the end of Ramadan and the end of the pilgrimage to Mecca as a school holiday.

The problem is that Islam doesn't follow a solar calendar at all. Its year is 11 days shorter than a real solar year, so every Eid would come 11 days before the one the year before. To honor Islamic holidays is thus very impractical.

At least Jewish holidays, as well as Easter, stay within a one-month window that makes it fairly easy to plan a calendar year around them consistently. But Mohammed considers that forbidden.

Question for anyone:

What is actually -required- to establish "a national holiday"?

Can the White House do this unilaterally, or must Congress give their approval, as well?

If the answer is the former, expect it to be done before he leaves office.

If the latter, probably not.
But then again, considering the tenor of the first lame-duck Republican majority Congress in national history, it could happen anyway...!

Well, to be TOTALLY honest, a holiday is only as "official" as society makes it (see: Thanksgiving and the massive sales they pushed onto that day). But technically speaking, a national holiday typically requires an act of Congress.
