Trump Moves Ariz. Rally on Immigration to Larger Venue

Donald Trump's presidential campaign was forced to move a rally this weekend to a larger venue in the wake of his comments on illegal immigrants that have stirred the pot.

The campaign, according to a CNN report, moved the rally to the Phoenix Convention Center in order to pack more people in.

"Due to the overwhelming response for Saturday's Rally in Phoenix, Arizona, the venue has been changed to accommodate the thousands of people expected to attend and the event will now take place at the Phoenix Convention Center," Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks said, reports the network.

Arizona is at the heart of the illegal immigration debate, as the state has nearly 400 miles of land that borders Mexico.

The Trump campaign was going to hold this weekend's event at the luxury Arizona Biltmore Resort Spa, according to the Arizona Republic, but was forced to change locations because of a large amount of public interest on attending the rally.

According to the Republic, there were about 3,500 conformed attendees as of 10:30 a.m. ET today.

Trump, a Republican, ignited the national immigration debate during his presidential campaign announcement speech last month, in which he criticized both illegal immigrants and the American policies that make it easier for them to get across the border.

"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're not sending you. They're not sending you. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems to us," said Trump, who clarified his remarks in an op-ed for Newsmax this week. "They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people!

"But I speak to border guards and they tell us what we're getting. And it only makes common sense. They're sending us not the right people. It's coming from more than Mexico. It's coming from all over South and Latin America, and it's coming probably from the Middle East. But we don't know. Because we have no protection and we have no competence, we don't know what's happening. And it's got to stop and it's got to stop fast."

A poll this week showed Trump is leading the crowded GOP field of candidates for president.
