City coroner starts weekend: "4 homicides in 6 hours"

Chicago wasn't the only city to experience a violent weekend over the 4th of July holiday. New Orleans, Louisiana saw a rise in crime and homicides as well. It was so bad that the city's coroner lamented the start of the weekend with a frustrated message to Twitter.

On Thursday evening, Jeffrey C. Rouse, MD posted the following:

News of other shootings and crimes poured in across the city throughout the weekend, prompting citizens to shake their heads in disbelief. Speaking to WWLTV, one citizen said of the criminals, "They don't value life, they don't value their life, my life, your life. If you're in my way, pow, get out of my way."

Another citizen, a local black activist, said, "I will say, 30 or 40 years ago, you didn't have this level of violence in the black community, and it's only going to be solved by us."

The news report says that along with the city's sudden economic boom, violence is also rising. This has prompted severe criticisms of Democrat Mayor Mitch Landrieu. In one blistering article for BayouBuzz, writer Jeff Crouere is furious that Landrieu seems more focused on tearing down Confederate memorials than addressing his city's murder rate.

"While Mayor Mitch Landrieu is worried about tearing down a 130-year old statue among other historical monuments," he writes, "the city of New Orleans continues to be awash in criminal activity. Over the July 4th weekend, there was another series of shootings, robberies and rapes that confirmed New Orleans continues to be one of the most violent cities in the nation."

New Orleans, a long-time progressive hotbed, is considered a "sanctuary city" -- a place where illegals can fly under the radar of immigration officers -- a correlation Crouere makes with the city's abundance of crime:

The reality is that monuments are not killing people in New Orleans, but criminals are doing so with wanton disregard for the police. Fighting 130 year old statues may feel good for Landrieu, but it will not save one life or make New Orleans a more livable city.

A real solution would be to remove the city’s status as one of the country’s sanctuary cities, places where illegal aliens can reside without fear of local law enforcement informing federal immigration authorities about their case. In New Orleans, the definition of sanctuary has an additional meaning as the city is also a comfortable home for large numbers of citizen criminals who roam the streets unmolested.

Thus, New Orleans is a sanctuary city for criminals of all ages, races and ethnicities. This policy attracts illegal aliens to New Orleans, bolstering our already large criminal population.

In San Francisco, another sanctuary city, Kathryn Steinle was recently murdered by an illegal immigrant while she walked around the city with her father and a friend. As TruthRevolt previously reported, Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez is a five-time deportee illegal alien with a rap sheet of seven felonies. He said he chose to live in San Francisco because of its status as a sanctuary city.

Crouere also states that Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman has a habit of releasing people suspected of immigration violations from prison and warns against the practice. "There is little doubt that many of those the Sheriff releases eventually commit crimes," he said. "It is what happened in San Francisco where such reckless policies cost Kathryn Steinle her life."
