The Obama administration lit up the north side of the White House in rainbow-colored light Friday night to celebrate the Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage around the country.

"As of 7:08 PM, the sunlight made it difficult make out the colors, but red, orange, yellow, green and violet were faintly visible," according to a pool report cited by Politico.

The display was meant "to demonstrate our unwavering commitment to progress and equality, here in America and around the world," a White House official told Politico.

"The pride colors reflect the diversity of the LGBT community, and tonight, these colors celebrate a new chapter in the history of American civil rights."

White House aides gathered on the North Lawn to view the lights, and over 100 onlookers watched from Pennsylvania Avenue, The Hill reports.
