Fox Poll: Bush and Trump Favorites of GOP Primary Voters
Thursday, June 25, 2015 10:26 AM

By: Courtney Coren

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and billionaire Donald Trump are in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots among Republicans running for president, in the most recent Fox News national poll.

Both candidates are seeing a bump in the polls after officially announcing their candidacies for president for 2016, according to the poll taken June 21-23 of likely Republican primary voters.

    Bush: 15 percent
    Trump: 11 percent
    Dr. Ben Carson: 10 percent
Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul: 9 percent
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker: 9 percent
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio: 8 percent
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee 6 percent

Bush is up 12 percent from when the poll was taken in early June. Trump's numbers have more than doubled since then, when only 4 percent of voters said they would support the real estate mogul for president.

Bush launched his campaign on June 15, and Trump's campaign began on June 16. Candidates typically receive a bump in the polls after entering the race.

While Trump's numbers may be up among Republican voters, only 29 percent of the same group of voters said that he is a serious candidate, while 64 percent say he's a side show.

When all 1,005 registered voters were asked, 77 percent said Trump is a side show.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, and former New York Gov. George Pataki all had less than 5 percent support.

When matched up against Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, however, Trump fares the worst, with 34 percent of voters favoring him versus 51 percent who said they would vote for Clinton.

Both Bush and Rubio are in a virtual dead heat when matched up with the former secretary of state.

I disagree. It is simply another example of where "conservatives" think their numbers are greater than they actually are.

Did you notice the big Ted Cruz surge? Do you recognize the organizing skill of the "conservative" movement? NOT

We'll agree to disagree.  If you total the support that the "conservative" candidates have - it is more than Bush.  The problem we have is that there are many candidates in there diluting that demographic.  I personally think that it would behoove us conservatives to put our candidates in the "smoky room" and decide who can best represent us AND win.  This is the way the establishment does it, what do you think that little meeting between Romney and Jeb was about, when Romney got out of the way?

That IS an issue of organization and also an issue of too much independence - it is our weakness.

But, make no mistake - Fox is pushing this poll to push Jeb Bush.

Just curious.  How does this question translate into a push poll?

I’m going to read a list of potential candidates for the 2016 Republican nomination.

Please tell me which one you would like to see as the Republican presidential nominee.

[IF NOT SURE, ASK: Well, if you had to decide today, which one would you choose?]

What would FoxNews gain by trying to push Bush or Trump?

In order to buy into that, one has to accept the conservative "Bush is a liberal" meme, and in order to do THAT, one has to completely ignore that Bush governed as a conservative, and just about the mostr conservative Governor of his time.

Ben Carson governed NOT, yet he's more of a conservative than Bush because he says so.

The heading - "Fox Poll: Bush and Trump Favorites of GOP Primary Voters" - leads ones to think GOP Primary Voters favor Bush and Trump.  Well, the numbers don't add up to that conclusion.  A heading of "Conservatives Unsure Who to Get Behind in the GOP Primary" would be more accurate.

Bush is the establishment favorite - and they have the right to have a favorite - but Fox is making it sound like Bush is also the GOP Primary Voter's favorite.    That's the subject of this thread - not how Bush governed or anything like that.  My comment was that this is a push poll - designed to make people think that Bush has more support within the party than he does.

And Ben Carson is not a serious contender in my book - no elective experience and questionable opinions on gun control.

Not sure I follow (just slow today).  There were about 16 names in the list as well as "Don't Know".  No one is going to get the numbers Hillary is getting (61%) until at least a nominee is chosen.  I'm not sure how any of this though adds up to a push poll.

Second meme... establishment favorite=not conservative.

Also incorrect.

Bush governed as a strong conservative.

FOX is not "making it sound like" anything. They're just reporting the poll numbers.

Two questions:

[1] Which mental institution did they take the poll in?, and
[2] Were the patients medicated before they took the poll...

The data in the article supports the headline, but "conservatives" prefer a different interpretation and headline.

That hardly makes it a "push poll."

There are two separate aspects; e.g. 1. the conduct of, and data in the poll itself, and 2. the headline for the article.

If it was a mental institution, it doesn't mean that you don't live in it too.

I can understand Bush leading the pack this early. Not that I want him in that spot, which I don't, but I can understand where the numbers come from.    But Trump?  Second place, Seriously?   The guy is a lunatic. A liberal  lunatic.

Liberal NO, Lunatic, possible, a rich one who is beholding to no one and NOT affraid of a fight with the competitors, Media, pundits or LIBS/DEMS /RINOGOP. He is successful and since most of the people in this country are not that will present a problem for him. However he has the SKILLS to right this country again and if he can show the masses who want to be successful a path way he will go along way. The best thing is he will make the Washington Cartel candidates answer questions thet do not want to answer ?????? The DONALD has arrived. Hope he stays into the race and if he gets some ecouragement his ego will keep him in and MONEY is not a problem. :amen:

Trump picks up on the same disgust with the "establishment" that Perot played to.

By doing it outside the two parties, Perot threw the election to Clinton, since I believe (polls notwithstanding) he derived more support from Republican voters than he did from democrat voters.

If Trump remains in the Republican primary system, does not go 3rd party later, he will have contributed to the "debate."

Unfortunately if his contribution is negative, e.g. the disrespectful remarks about Mexico, then he will be no better than Perot.

I expect the democrat will win the Presidency, and the GOP will lose the Senate in 2016, or 2018.

The GOP is forced by its followers to retain so many unpopular positions, it is a downward demographic driven spiral.

Although I disagree with the other remarks you made in the same post above, you're correct on this prognostication.

Bush is going to get the nod in 2016, edging out Walker.
He's then going down in flames in the general election to o'er-the-Hillary, who will win big enough to "tip the Senate" back to the democrats.

America isn't going to vote for "a third Bush".
The name is toxic -- particularly among the so-called "independents" without whom the Pubbies can't win.
There's also a significant contingent of registered Republicans and conservatives who just aren't going to make the mark on the ballot for another Bush.

That includes me.

Just had a thought today. Republicans will continue to hold the House for a while yet. The Senate will remain "tippy", flopping back and forth, and eventually will "flop over" to the 'rat side. But the "era of Republican presidents" is drawing to its end -- or has ended already. Due to changing demographics, the electoral numbers just aren't going to be there anymore for the Pubbies. It doesn't help that they seem unable to offer candidates who are willing to fight both for themselves, and for traditional American mores and values.

But it's worse than that. Even if the Pubbies did present candidates who embrace such traditional American mores and values, an increasing plurality of the voters no longer care about such values, and a growing number simply reject them. Witness the recent poll that said something like 47% are now willing to vote for an openly socialist candidate.

A cliche worth repeating:
It was a good run, while it lasted.....   (sigh)

Dr. Carson may have the intellect to be a neurosurgeon, well not may, he obviously does.  I don't believe that would make him a great president.  I'm not sure that would make him even a good president.

Never underestimate the power of nice.

Scott Walker will lay low through the summer while the rest of the field throw mud at each other. After Labor Day he will emerge from the pack relatively unscathed.

Appearing above the fray he will unveil an agenda of free market economics at home and, in an undisguised reversal of Obama's missteps, a strong foreign policy in the Middle East aimed at working with Israel and allied regional powers to rein in ISIS and Iran.
