House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in a meandering but dramatic floor speech on Friday said she will vote "no" on a measure providing assistance to workers displaced by trade.
“If TAA slows down the fast track, I’m prepared to vote against TAA," Pelosi said.
Pelosi's opposition to the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program casts doubt on whether the measure will pass.
If it fails, it could sink a broader trade package that includes President Obama's requet for fast-track trade legislation.
The move by Pelosi is a rare split with Obama, who had visited Capitol Hill on Friday to urge Democrats to back the measure.
