GOP aiming for Friday trade vote, but snag remains

They’re trying to resolve a last-minute hangup over aid for workers who lose their jobs to free trade.

House leaders, confident but not yet certain they have the support to pass sweeping trade legislation, are aiming to bring the package to a floor vote by the end of this week — even as they rush to resolve a last-minute hangup over how to pay for aid to displaced workers.

The vote to grant President Barack Obama fast-track authority to negotiate a massive Pacific Rim trade deal will be extremely tight by all accounts. Senior aides and lawmakers in GOP leadership are intent on scheduling the vote at the moment they believe they have the votes locked up — ideally by Friday, to spare supportive lawmakers the possibility of another weekend of attacks by trade foes back in their districts.

"We have to pass the bill, so you can see what's in it!"

True for obamacare, and true for this one, too.

I sense the folks in this forum who were saying publicly, "I support it because (insert name of Republican Congressman or Senator here) is in favor of it", and "anything with the label 'free trade' on it must be good", in a few weeks after passage going to be lamenting, "why didn't they TELL us about this before they voted????"

Under this trade agreement (that no one is allowed to see before the vote), Americans lose their sovereignty.

Part of the deal sets up a "commission" of World leaders. The President of some Third World hell hole will have the same veto power as the president of the United States under this commission.

Individual Americans will lose sovereignty when the Sultan of Brunei can veto or impose some new "regulation" on Americans (no different from the way the European Union just banned foxhunting in England).

Tell me, if you don't like what the commission imposes on Americans, can you vote the Sultan of Brunei out of office?

We are losing our sovereignty...and it happens TODAY, with this vote.
