Rejoice Delaware! On Tuesday, House lawmakers approved a legislation that makes the penalty for marijuana possession a lot more lenient. Instead of felony drug charges for cannabis possession, violators will be punished more like a traffic violation. This would successfully replace criminal penalties with civil fines. Some opponents to the bill, argue that decriminalization would only help the black market thrive. They also believe unintended consequences may occur. One such consequence is searching and interrogating a suspect for suspicion of marijuana; which they say often leads to bigger arrests. Depending on who you ask, that could be a good thing. Many citizens nationwide believe that cops are overstepping their boundaries, conducting unconstitutional searches.
