Authorities have arrested a suspect in the slayings of a corporate executive, his wife, their 10-year-old son and a housekeeper at a northwest Washington mansion.
U.S. Marshals Service spokesman David Neumann says 34-year-old Daron Dylon Wint was arrested around 10:45 p.m. Thursday in northeast Washington.
Wint is a welder who previously worked for Maryland-based American Iron Works. Forty-six-year-old Savvas Savopoulos, who was slain at his home, was the CEO of that company.
Savopoulos' $4.5 million mansion in Woodley Park was set on fire after the slayings on May 14. His wife, Amy, their 10-year-old son, Philip, and housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa were also slain.
Mansions in the neighborhood are protected by fences and elaborate security systems and local and federal law enforcement officers are a constant presence, in part because Vice President Joe Biden's official residence is nearby.
Wint is a native of Guyana and a former Marine. He has been convicted of assault and malicious destruction of property.
Investigators used DNA analysis conducted at a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms lab to identify Wint, according to a law enforcement official.
Savopoulos moonlighted as a martial-arts instructor and had planned to open a martial arts studio in northern Virginia.
The Savopouloses lived in a $4.5 million home Woodley Park, where mansions are protected by fences and elaborate security systems and local and federal law enforcement officers are a constant presence, in part because Vice President Joe Biden's official residence is nearby.
