CON Hold Nuneaton     #GE2015

Got to be an upset for Labour. They'd all but measured the curtains for that seat.

Update: the Lib Dems have now lost £3500 in parliamentary deposits.

That's 7 seats where they have lost their deposit.

Parties pay £500 per seat to get on the ballot. If they get below a certain % of the vote, they don't get it refunded. It's there to stop lunatics cluttering up the ballot. For a major party, especially one that was in power 6 weeks ago, to lose their deposits at this rate is unprecedented.

Elections in May! A great idea. Maybe to take advantage of better weather?  I also like loser pays in British tort litigation. That's a good one. We yanks could learn a lot from Brits.

SNP Gain Kilmarnock & Loudoun     #GE2015

Labour's first loss in Scotland.

This is why I wanted Scottish independence - the Labour party would have been screwed for years, allowing the Tories to actually move to the right without fear.

We have the odd good idea!

Campaign is always 6 weeks, no more. The election can be called at any time up to the 5th anniversary of the previous one, solely at the discretion of the Prime Minister, so we don't always get May elections. Nice this year though, the weather was good, which always helps turn-out.

Labour's shadow foreign secretary Douglas Alexander has just lost to a 20-year-old SNP Mhairi Black. WOW. #GE2015 http://ind.pn/1AIEq33

That is a high profile loss. No great loss as far as the nation goes though.

There are some freakish turn-outs being reported. Don't think I've seen one seat yet under 60% - most general elections you are lucky to get 45% turning out.

No bloody way. That had a big enough majority for Labour that it was counted as a safe seat.  :thud:

The Lib Dems got 80 votes in Castle Point. Eighty. It's their worst electoral performance since 1859. Bloody hell.

Ealing Central and Acton - Labour gain it from Cons. I bet that's because the LibDem vote collapsed and went to Lab.

Fair swing in vote, as well.

Be difficult to pull off. The one thing the Scots hate more than spending money is the Tories. It's bone deep and why Scotland has historically been a Labour stronghold.
