VIRGINIA BEACH (Tribune News Service) — A second Navy SEAL involved in an accident at a Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek pool has died.

Petty Officer 1st Class Brett Allen Marihugh, 34 of Livonia, Mich. died today of his injuries, according to Lt. David Lloyd, a Naval Special Warfare Group 2 spokesman.

On Friday, Marihugh and Petty Officer 1st Class Seth Cody Lewis were found unresponsive in a swimming pool on base while doing physical fitness training.

Both men belonged to Naval Special Warfare Group 2 and Lloyd said in a news release that the two men were discovered at the bottom of the pool by service members assigned to the Combat Swimmer Training Facility, which is also used by members of the SEAL team for regular fitness training.

Lewis was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Sentara Leigh Hospital, the news release said. Marihugh had been in critical condition.

"Both of these fierce warriors were admired and highly respected among everyone who knew them," Capt. Pete Vasely, the commander of Naval Special Warfare Group 2 said in a news release. "We will continue to investigate what happened. We owe it to the families and our teammates."

An investigation into the accident continues. Lloyd said the men were not using diving equipment.

No other details have been provided.

Marihugh served in the Marine Corps from 1999 to 2003 before entering the Navy on Dec. 4, 2006, according to a Navy news release. He completed basic underwater demolition/SEAL training in Coronado, Calif. in Oct. 2007 before continuing on to advanced training. He has served with East Coast and West Coast SEAL teams and earned multiple awards and decorations, incluing the Bronze Star.

He is survived by his father Michael Marihugh, his mother Sandra Murray, sisters Sheradyn and Meghan and stepmother Zona.
