KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A security official says that at least a dozen Afghan miner removers have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in eastern Afghanistan.
Gen. Zelmai Oryakhail, provincial police chief of Paktia province, said on Sunday that the mine removers had been working in the area for weeks without any incidents or difficulties.
He added that the mine removers did not want police or army soldiers protecting them and preferred to have local villagers provide security.
