Rand Paul rounded on the Republican establishment as he made his pitch for the support of party activists in the key state of New Hampshire.

From appearing in jeans to delivering a withering attack on the record of other Republicans, the Kentucky senator made sure he stood out from his rivals.

"I got tired of seeing people in my party getting in charge and not doing anything at all," he told activists at the party's “Leadership Summit” in Nashua, New Hampshire.

"They all look alike, the all sound alike, they all dress alike and nothing ever changes."

Mr Paul was the latest of the Republican hopefuls to make his pitch for the backing of activists in a state which will set the tone for the race for the party's nomination next year. A strong showing in the New Hampshire primary and the Iowa caucus will give a candidate a huge advantage in a crowded field, while a weak performance frequently proves fatal to an aspirant's chances.

Taking the stage to a background of thumping music, Mr Paul received standing ovations before, after and even during his address.

One thing we are going to find out in this primary is just how enamored the base is with the "neocon" foreign policy that spent $2 trillion to deliver Iran a client state, Afghanistan to the Taliban, with the rest of the Middle East in tatters.

Jeb Bush is out there defending his brother's foreign policy.  Lindsey Graham and most of the rest of the Republican field seem hell-bent to go out there and kill some Muslims without really articulating a strategy that protects the USA over the long-term.

Rand Paul is the only anti-nation building, non-interventionist in a party that was founded on non-interventionism.  Don't be surprised if this turns out to be a great issue for Paul.  I think a good many Republicans are sick and tired of our trigger-happy politicians leading us into wars without purpose.  Whether it is a majority or not, we shall see.

Paul's problem is going to be articulating the difference between his policies and OPapaDoc's.

But in the long run, and looking at hindsight, O' Papa Doc has been more right than wrong on most issues; including foreign policy.  However, right now things are such that an isolationist stance won't work.  We certainly can't ignore things that have transpired due to Obama policy.  In addition a standing ovation isn't surprising; the message of liberty and freedom are becoming more popular.

In general, OPapaDoc's policies have not been "more right" in my opinion.  He should not have gotten involved in the Libya fiasco.  That turned into a disaster.  He should not have cozied up to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.  And he should not be handing nukes to the Iranians.

He negotiates out of weakness and desperation.  OPapaDoc takes the military solution off the table even before he sits down to talk.  A non-interventionist, anti-nation building president must convince any potential enemy that he is willing to completely decimate a place and leave nothing behind but charred desert if America is tread upon. Otherwise, noninterventionism is surrender.
