Lawyers Say It’s Racist To Arrest Black People For Selling Drugs Near Schools

Regardless of opinions about the war on drugs I think most people would agree that selling crack in front of a public school is bad. Well, most people except the lawyers representing a bunch of drug dealers that were busted in San Francisco. The federal public defenders don’t dispute their clients’ guilt, but still think the cases should be thrown out because of racism. You see, these drug dealers are all black.

The San Francisco Examiner reports:

Federal defense attorneys allege that drug trafficking stings conducted in a joint operation between federal and local law enforcement officials in the Tenderloin and South of Market targeted individuals based on their race.

The drug sweep, which took place in 2013 and 2014, was called Operation Safe Schools. It was a joint effort by the San Francisco Field Division of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, San Francisco Police Department and U.S. Attorney’s Office. The purpose was to get scumbag dope dealers away from schools and it netted 37 arrests. The problem, if you can call it that, is that all of the dealers happened to be black.

“In total, thirty-seven people have been targeted by the … Operation Safe Schools taskforce. Every single one is Black,” according to the motion filed Tuesday.

Drug dealing is generally gang related and highly territorial. It seems likely that black gangs controlled the spots the task force hit. However the attorneys representing the busted dealers are convinced racism is behind it and their reasoning is beyond belief.

Because a couple of San Francisco police officers sent racist and homophobic texts, the attorneys figure all cops, including federal officers, are racist:

The attorneys also note in the motion concerns raised by recently revealed evidence of racial bias by San Francisco officers against black, Hispanic, Asian and gay people.

City officials announced last month that several police officers were under investigation in connection with the discovery of a number of racist and homophobic text messages.

Seriously, that’s it. All the defendants are black and a few SFPD officers sent racist texts. Mind you, none of those officers were involved with this particular operation.

While the attorneys feel that the race of the drug dealers proves racism, it could also mean that black people are more likely to deal drugs, at least in the areas targeted by the sting. The thing I just can’t get over here is that the point of the operation was to get drugs and scumbags away from school children. How could anyone possibly have a problem with that?

Here are the “victims of racism” that the drug sweep caught:

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said the defendants arrested in Operation Safe Schools are each charged with the distribution of prohibited drugs on or within 1,000 feet of a school or playground and are charged with distributing various controlled substances, such as crack cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and oxycodone.

The motion filed by the defendants’ attorneys asks that all 37 drug dealers be tried together, where they will then try to get the charges tossed on the racism allegations. These pieces of sh*t are accused of doing something that society finds reprehensible. Go find racism and outrage somewhere else.
