Was Noose At Duke University Hung By A Black Student?

The big outrage this week, besides Indiana’s religious freedom law, was that some “racist white guy” hung a noose on the Duke University campus. The noose was found early Wednesday morning and quickly prompted nationwide cries of a hate crime. University officials have figured out who is responsible for hanging the noose, but their actions seem a little odd, which leads me to believe that maybe the perpetrator wasn’t a racist white guy at all.

From The Duke Chronicle:

The undergraduate student who placed a noose in a tree on the Bryan Center Plaza has come forward and is no longer on campus, Duke announced at a press conference Thursday afternoon.

The student’s identity was discovered after an investigation by Duke University Police and the Office of Student Affairs, and he or she is no longer on campus, said Michael Schoenfeld, vice president for public affairs and government relations.

Now here’s the part that has me thinking something is up:

Because of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, the student’s name and other personal information—such as year, gender and race—will not be released.

Privacy Act nothing. If this were a white guy that hung a noose on a college campus, his pasty mug would be all over the news. And this seems strange to me as well:

Schoenfeld added that the student will now go through the standard student conduct process while the University tries to determine factors such as whether or not other individuals were involved or if there was pressure on the student from an outside organization.

Again, if the person responsible for leaving a symbol of hate on campus were white, you’d think it would be immediate expulsion, not a “student conduct process.” Those white frat boys that got caught singing a racist chant in Oklahoma got kicked out of school almost as soon as the story broke. Why is Duke trying to figure out if their noose hanger did the deed under outside pressure?

To maintain the integrity of the student conduct process, the University is not in a position to discuss aspects of the incident such as motivation.

If it’s a white guy; he’s a racist a-hole and he’s gone. If it’s a black student; he or she must have had good reason to do it so they have to investigate and provide counseling.

If you remember, the race and identity of the white student that hung a noose on a statue at Ole Miss was released. In fact, the Justice Department has even charged him with two counts of civil rights violations. This Duke noose case is being handled much differently. Why?

After all of the media attention for this horrendous “hate crime,” the last thing Duke wants to admit to is that it was really just some false flag racism perpetrated by a black student. I’m not saying that is definitely the case, but it is certainly a possibility.

We’ll have to see how this plays out, but as it stands something ain’t right. At the very least, there is more to the story than: racist white guy hangs noose on campus because he’s an idiot.
