Moderate Syrian Rebels Keep Moderately Joining ISIS

Those moderate Syrian rebels are wonderful moderates. They moderately take the weapons we give them. Then they moderately join ISIS.

How very moderate of them.

Riyadh, Asharq Al-Awsat—Moderate Syrian opposition fighters are increasingly joining the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) for financial reasons, Syrian National Coalition representative to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Adib Al-Shishakli has warned.

In comments to Asharq Al-Awsat, Shishakli said that international funding cuts to moderate Syrian fighters wages are prompting rebels to throw in their lot with the jihadist group which is capable of paying far higher salaries.

Hint, hint. Give us more money or we’ll stop being moderates.

The problem with “moderates for pay” who temporarily agree to kill 40 percent fewer Christians is that the Qatari and Kuwaiti backers of ISIS have more money to pump into this than we do. And slavery and ethnic cleansing are more profitable than fighting a dictator anyway.

Are we supposed to match the ISIS non-Muslim sex slave incentive?

Finally there is no moderate Syrian opposition. The Syrian opposition on the ground consists of Islamist militias. Even the New York Times admitted it a while back.

We’re not choosing fighters from a buffet of democracy-loving moderates. We’re choosing between the moderate Jihadists and extremist Jihadists. And the difference between the two is a matter of how many heads are being cut off.

If they were truly moderates, they would find ISIS incompatible. The American soldier isn’t going to join ISIS for better pay. The Syrian moderate Jihadist will.

Because he was never a moderate anything.
