No but I did invest a minute and a half and believe I got the gist of it!

That was refreshing. A teacher who actually teaches the important stuff, not the politically correct stuff.

How rare these days.

SO true!

I have no beef with actual teachers. They perform a VERY important service and we should STOP asking them to do what parents are supposed to do!

I agree Bigun.  Teachers should be free to "teach".  As far as what parents are supposed to do, one of my pet peeves is the meme that children are coming to school hungry - and we have to institute new school programs to open the school even in the summer so that children can get at least one or two "healthy" meals a day.

Don't we already have programs and charities that are in place to provide food and meals to those who can't afford it?  Isn't that what food stamp EBT cards are for?  Yet, those receiving this benefit are allowed to use these cards in casinos, malls, etc.  Why aren't we investigating these parents whose children are coming to school hungry?  What kind of parent would put anything before their children having enough to eat?  What are they spending their cards on?

Of course, these are rhetorical questions - we all know the answers.  How else do people on welfare get the tats, expensive hair stylings, tacky fake fingernails, beer, cigarettes, lottery tickets, big screen televisions......etc?  Off topic, I know, but still relevant to what schools are having to spend precious resources on.  Investigate the homes of children that come to school hungry!

Sigh.  It'll never happen.  That would be racist.

I hear you Alice!

It would also be very beneficial to stop letting political correctness drive the agenda!

How do you like it when teachers take a more important role in kids lives than their parents...

I blame the parents first, society, second.

My grammar school teachers of the 50s and early 60's knew their job and knew their place. But, so did parents; strong women were home raising family then. Today, they are chasing careers, with only a few scant moments per day to attend to family.

Hmmm! I personally saw nothing in the video that would point me in either direction but I can tell you that the colleges of Education at our universities today do not teach them to be like that! Quite the opposite in fact.

I thought he was quite full of himself and prone to pointing students in a direction that might not be good for them.

Who's going to pick up the pieces when they crash and burn... him?

Oh for chrissakes!  Lighten the hell up, please?

I was fortunate enough to have had [some] teachers EXACTLY like him in high school.  It's where they belong.  Because, by the time you've gone to college, if you haven't had a teacher like Mr. Mali, it could evoke a negative reaction from the student.  In grade school, it could also scare the crap of you, I would imagine.

Had a lay teacher in a Jesuit school who taught English.  He was gay...which was a little different in society back in 1960, but he was a tyrant who would NOT accept a B from you if you had previously gotten an A.  He was seldom appreciated by his current class, but he was loved when you ever looked back.

And he's right about bathroom 'breaks'.  LOL!

I've had many fine teachers, but the greatest teacher I ever had came after I received my undergraduate degree when I returned to community college in a career move that necessitated my taking science classes before transferring to professional school.

He was a microbiologist who demanded and got the best out of each student. He challenged us every moment of every day in his class. He insisted on excellence, not only in his class, but in all of the related sciences to his subject.

I thank him for making the first two years of medical school (almost) a breeze.

The best teacher I ever had was a retired Marine who taught American history and kicked my A$$ on a regular basis in his spare time!

My fifth grade teacher was my favorite, she was a perfectionist and demanded the same from us.  By the same token, she was able to recognize each student's particular aptitudes and she went out of her way to encourage us to explore areas that were interesting to each of us.  With me - it was music and art.  I am grateful to her to this day that she motivated me to learn those things that are so fulfilling to me now.

If there were more teachers like this guy there would be more kids who come to college with functioning brains and not skulls full of mush.

My husband and I raised four kids with strong values and with character, but it took TEACHERS to bring them the rest of the way, knowing how to write, expanding their reading, teaching them higher math, chemistry, physics....

The idea that this guy is trying to replace parents is nonsense.

He is supplementing what good parents give kids at home, and helping fill the gaps for those who have no one at home who cares.

Thank you Mrs. Fisher!

I had loads of great teachers, but the one who made the most difference in my life was my band director.

Discipline, discipline, discipline.

But also performing great music literature at a high level, always expecting excellence, strong character and a positive spirit.

Good teachers are invaluable.

He's one of the reasons I decided to become one, and now he's very old and my FB friend, and I get to read how much difference he made in the lives of many other students, some from great homes like mine, and some from really bad ones....

Wow, I'm a lot different from the pack, it seems. The "toughest" teachers—the most stubborn, the hardest-driving and the meanest—I still hate. I still resent my public high school education. I gained nothing from them. I was a brilliant mind as a kid and yet they tried to force me ways I couldn't go. They wouldn't let me do things the way I knew how. To this day I get tears in my eyes looking back on the teacher who went out of her way to change the scoring system to fail me after I figured out how to pass her class. I aced all her tests, but because I was so exhausted after a day of school that I had no energy to do the piles of homework she assigned, she held that against me. Or the Army reservist who threw out my final exam and gave me a zero because I never kept the notes I took in class. (Those two were the two that, because of my experience with them, led to me vowing never to join the armed forces.) The list goes on and on.

I eventually graduated high school and college, but I still have a very bad memory of "teachers," and of course this was the great state of New York, home to the highest property taxes and some of the highest paid teachers in America.
