The White House expects a political agreement on Iran's nuclear program will be reached by the end of the month, press secretary Josh Earnest said Friday.

“At the end of this month we would anticipate a political agreement,” Earnest told reporters.
No deal has been reached, Earnest said. But a possible pact could include a commitment from Iran on limiting its nuclear enrichment capacity and inspections and specific nuclear facilities.

President Obama has been receiving updates on the ongoing talks in Switzerland multiple times daily and is in touch with the U.S.'s chief negotiator, Secretary of State John Kerry, according to Earnest.

Once a political agreement is reached, technical details would have to be hammered out in order to reach a final pact. That process is not expected to be done until June.

In response to reports that talks hit a snag over the end of United Nations sanctions on Iran, Earnest said the president believes Iran must demonstrate it is abiding by the agreement before most sanctions are lifted.

“The president does not believe it makes much sense for us to remove a large number of sanctions at the front end of this agreement," he said.

I thought they removed sanctions already? At least the major ones. Didn't they give them billions?
