Teachers fear for their lives because of administration's hands-off-blacks guidelines
By M Catharine Evans
President Obama didn’t dare mention the situation at Richmond, Virginia’s Martin Luther King Middle School during his oh-so-eloquent Selma speech last Saturday. The mess at MLK is being played out in majority-black schools across the country.
On March 6, an NBC affiliate reported that MLK, a school with 731 students and 99% black, had 1,635 disorderly incidents in 2014. The kicker? The $40-million state-of-the-art middle school opened in January of the same year.
The writing was on the wall in May 2014, when teachers at MLK wrote an extensive e-mail to a local TV station saying they feared for their lives. Teachers claimed that the school was not safe for teachers or students and that administrators were turning a blind eye to their concerns.
From NBC12, May 14, 2014:
"We come every day to a hostile environment," said the teacher. "The message is we need something to be done. We cannot go on with the status quo."
The teacher says even attempting to write up students leads to threats from the teens.
"Snitches get stitches threats," said the teacher. "I'm going to slap you, or I'm going to hit you, or I can't wait to fight you."
"We really can't teach until the behavior issues are controlled," said the teacher.
The teachers claim, "the administration made a rule that prevents students from being removed from class, no matter how disruptive or disrespectful the students may be.
Last Friday, a day before the Obama family walked across the Edmund Pettus bridge in Selma in what the president described as “living history,” NBC12’s Laura Gellar updated the station’s six-month investigation into MLK.
NBC affiliate:
So how hostile is that environment? According to the state database, last year MLK had 1635 disorderly or disruptive behavior offenses.
“It's out of control,” Shonda Harris-Muhammed, who represents the school on the school board, reacted.
We asked Harris-Muhammed how the district can attract teachers to this kind of environment.
“You can't,” she responded. “You have to promise them something that we can't technically give and that's intensive training to deal with student discipline issues.”
…those issues start at home.
…when they come in here and they want to tear up this school or any school, they can't stay with us,” she added. “We got to stop spoon-feeding people. We have to hold parents accountable.”
Harris-Muhammed can dream on. In the DOJ’s 2014 guidelines, Holder and Obama didn’t mention holding parents or the school-to-prison punks accountable. Just the opposite. One of the recommendations actually states that school personnel are “responsible for administering routine school discipline instead of security or police officers.” Then, in between threats, the terrorized teachers and administrators “must collect and monitor data that security or police officers take to ensure nondiscrimination.”
While POTUS’s own daughters attend a prestigious majority-white school where deportment and discipline prevail, Obama and his attorney general make sure teachers and principals in inner-city, predominantly black schools are held hostage by impulsive, lawless, and fatherless thugs.
MLK Middle School is a disgrace – a “stain” on Obama and his progressive ilk..
On the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Selma, Alabama, the president lectured us “to open our eyes, and ears, and hearts, to know that this nation’s racial history still casts its long shadow upon us.” Young people marched “for the protection of the law,” he said, and today “we can address unfair sentencing and stunted circumstances that rob too many boys of the chance to become men.”
Obama needs to open his own eyes and ears to the long shadow of violence he and Eric Holder are casting over the nation’s black schoolchildren. The nation’s top law enforcement official and his boss issued recommendations last year that encourage local, state, and federal education personnel to give black students a pass no matter how much they act out and make life a living hell in the classroom.
