Government Finally Admits ‘Potential Criminal Activity’ Related To Lost Lerner Emails

By Joseph R. Carducci, February 27, 2015.

You might not have caught this, but last night there was a major development in the ongoing case, probe, or investigation into the IRS targeting scandal, specifically related to the so-called disappearance of emails either written by or sent to former head of exempt organizations director Lois Lerner.

Investigators Admit ‘Potential Criminal Activity’ in IRS Probe

This occurred during testimony from the Treasury Inspector for Tax Administration Russell George and Deputy Inspector General for Investigations Timothy Camus. They were both on Capitol Hill to update the House Oversight Committee on the status of those now infamous ‘missing’ Lois Lerner emails and the IRS targeting of conservatives.

There was one very interesting exchange between Camus and Congressman Jim Jordan (Rep, OH). Camus actually admitted or revealed there is “potential criminal activity” involved in the hiding of these emails during the years of the IRS targeting campaign against Tea Party and other conservative organizations. Listen in on this one yourself:

As we also now know, the IRS officials continued every effort possible to stonewall these and other investigations. This included never even asking any IT professionals to look into gathering back-up tapes or other ways to possibly recover emails which had been requested by Congress. Heck, even the IRS head honcho himself, Commissioner John Koskinen, had repeatedly stated under oath those emails could not be recovered. Despite all of these attempts to the contrary, Camus and the investigators have already recovered almost 33,000 relevant emails.

Conservative Groups Tired of Stonewalling

As you might expect, those groups who suffered due to these targeting techniques have not been happy with much of this stonewalling. Catherine Engelbrecht, True the Vote founder, had this to say:

“The IRS was apparently given instruction to do whatever necessary to silence those who spoke out against the Obama Administration. It became a West Wing weapon of choice. As the nation’s only pro-liberty election integrity organization, True the Vote was marked for takedown by the IRS early in 2010, along with hundreds of other organizations that spoke openly about government corruption.

It took a long time, too long, for the pieces to be put together, but Americans are beginning to understand that the politics of hope and change has an enforcement arm that operates like an organized crime syndicate. The time for choosing is now.”

Indeed. Hopefully, with these new revelations, the investigation will now take on an even more serious tone and we can really get to the bottom of things. Maybe the IRS will start paying more attention to stuff like this in the future instead of focusing on all the illegal immigrants to give tax refunds to.
