Barbara Mikulski, (…) the longest-serving woman in the history of Congress, said she had one question as she weighed seeking a sixth term: "Do I spend my time raising money, or do I spend my time raising hell?" The 78-year-old Maryland Democrat, who led the powerful Appropriations Committee, announced Monday that she (…) would not seek re-election next year when her fifth term ends.

We will soon see an avalanche of retirement, illness, and deaths in Congress.

A lot of these guys are getting ridiculously old to still be working. 

No one can fight age. They will not be able to pretend that they are still able to do their jobs in a functional way over the next few years.

When it hits, it will be a free for all of new people in Congress. Seats will be opening up like popcorn, on both sides.

Check out this list.

Ten percent of the senate will be 80 or older in 5 years.
And 5 of those ten will be almost 90 years old.

17 in the house will be 80 or over in 5 years.
5 of the 17 will be 90, or close to 90 years old in 5 years.

It is simple nature. There are about to be a lot of new people in Congress. And that does not even include the ones who will resign, or have an accident, or get expelled.

There is going to be a big change very soon.

Unfortunately the spawn of the baby boomers and their spawn have produced a pretty sorry lot.
Of course there are exceptions, but not enough.
