U.S. Actions Aimed at “an end to sanctions” and “an unobstructed path to nuclear weapons.”

by Sara Noble • February 23, 2015

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

The U.S. and the world powers have resumed talks with Iran despite the fact that Iran has violated agreement after agreement, including most recently when they hid military components of the nuclear program.

Expert in political science and senior fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, Emanuele Ottolenghi sees U.S. weakness leading to disastrous results.

“One thing has changed, though. Rather than recognizing that Iran’s stalling tactics continue; or seeing Iran’s nuclear opaqueness as the greatest obstacle to a good deal; or objecting to a deal that does not fully address Iran’s past nuclear and ballistic missile research, the Obama administration has agreed to defer those issues to the ongoing IAEA work that Iran has stymied for more than a decade,” he said in an article he recently penned for Defend Democracy.

“In June 2003, in a rare moment of public frustration, then-IAEA director Mohammad ElBaradei opined that ‘Iran should not wait for us to ask questions and then respond; it should come forward with a complete and immediate declaration of all its nuclear activities. That would be the best way to resolve the issues within the next few weeks,’” he wrote

Ottolenghi concluded that “Twelve years on, ElBaradei’s sound assessment still resonates. Unless the coming nuclear deal rests on an unambiguous accounting of Iran’s nuclear past and present, the country will have obtained what it always wanted: an end to the sanctions regime and an unobstructed path to nuclear weapons.”

The exaggerated uproar over Prime Minister Netanyahu’s upcoming speech before Congress by President Obama has served to distract from Iran’s activities and U.S. Weakness.

Iran agrees with Barack Obama that Benjamin Netanyahu should not speak before Congress. “It doesn’t make sense to sour [nuclear] negotiations a month or two before they’re to be completed”, they quoted Barack Obama as saying.

Fars says Netanyahu’s speech “hampers their collective agenda of ending the dispute over Iran’s nuclear energy program” but thanks to the messages being sent by Obama, they see a far deeper rift between the U.S. and Israel.

They see Israel’s diminution as “history in the making” and the “beginning of the Israel exit from U.S. Foreign policy”.

The U.N. atomic watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (U.A.E.A.), in a report released Thursday said that Iran is hiding “nuclear-related activities involving military-related organizations, including activities related to the development of a nuclear payload for a missile.”

In an interview with Israel Radio, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) head Yukiya Amano said that no nuclear agreement will likely be reached adding that the Islamic Republic has so far been unresponsive to questions regarding its nuclear program and has failed to address concerns over its attempts to develop atomic weapons.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said that claims of Iran covering up facts about its nuclear enrichment activities are sheer lies, during a Monday address to a gathering marking National Engineers Day, according to the Islamic news agency.

The agency reported that “he said the claims that Iran has been hiding its enrichment program is a big lie because there were no reason to go to Europeans to start this program if it wanted to hide it from the world.”

“The president [Rpuhani] said Iran sought enrichment technology only to serve its peaceful purposes and also to find a new source of energy. The president pointed to launching of a new satellite by Iran as another step forward in space sciences and said he never doubted that the nation had a much more brilliant performance than the government in many areas,” the report continued.

The next statement by the news agency was more interesting: “President Rouhani said history will stand witness to the fact on that Iran has nothing less the rest of world, that it is a zealous warrior and also emerges victorious from the battlefield.”

Fars News reported that all Democrats and some Republicans are opposed to Prime Minister Netanyahu’s speech which Barack Obama has done everything in his power to stop. However, so far, only a handful have refused to attend and only 25 Democrats have signed a letter asking Netanyahu not to come.

Fars also said the Republican party has most of the Zionist Christians and Jews. What does the Democrat party have then? Zionism today only means to preserve Israel.

After the announcement about Iran’s treachery in hiding components of its nuclear program, Netanyahu said:

“It is astonishing that even after the recent IAEA report determined that Iran is continuing to hide the military components of its nuclear program, the nuclear talks with it are proceeding,” Netanyahu said. “Not only are they continuing, there is an increased effort to reach a nuclear agreement in the coming days and weeks.”

Netanyahu said that the agreement will “threaten [Israel’s] existence.

“The agreement that is being formulated between Iran and the major powers is dangerous for Israel, and therefore, I will go to the US next week in order to explain to the American Congress, which could influence the fate of the agreement, why this agreement is dangerous for Israel, the region and the entire world.”

Talks between Iran and the world powers resumed Sunday.

The target date for the outline of an agreement is March 24th with a singing by June 30.

Secretary of State John Kerry said in London on Saturday that “There are still significant gaps, there is still a distance to travel.”
