Politifact: Rumors Scott Walker Was Kicked Out of Marquette Untrue

News outlets continue to question Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's departure from college before earning a degree, The Washington Post said in a story tracing his early years from a reluctant Marquette University student to his ascension as a successful politico.

While Democrats have continued to seed stories that he was kicked out or left under a cloud, and while other media continue to delve into the specifics of why he left before graduating, Politifact, in investigating Walker's higher education back story, determined such insinuation of any scandal was untrue.

"Gov. Scott Walker was a student at Marquette from fall of 1986 until spring 1990 and was a senior in good standing when he voluntarily withdrew from Marquette," the university noted in a statement, Politifact said.

Politifact added that there were no bad conduct infractions or academic issues on Walker's record at the university when he departed, citing an interview from December 2013 with the school's spokesman Brian Dorrington.

What emerged from stories about his past was Walker was not an invested student, doing poorly in French class where he was always late. Rather, he was focused on politics the whole time, keeping a Ronald Reagan photo on his dorm room desk and making a failed run for student body president, which he lost by 15 percent, the Post said.

"Not even his friends at Marquette were entirely sure why he never finished," the Post said of his departure, adding that "Walker clearly liked college politics more than college itself."

Later, after leaving Marquette, he would lose an early election but follow up with major successes, winning 11 races in succession since 1993 — from state legislature to county executive to governor — on a hot career trajectory that has led him to be re-elected as governor after a major union battle, and now to ponder a White House run.

While questions remain as to why he left, Walker clearly looks back fondly on his college days. He crashed his class's 20-year reunion in 2010, Politico noted.

Walker needed 34 credits to earn a bachelor's degree and maintained a 2.59 GPA during his tenure at Marquette, Politico said.

He retains close ties with the school, Politico noted. He and his wife Tonette wed on campus, and his son is a junior there today.

Politico said that if Walker were to win a White House bid, he would be the first president since Harry Truman not to have earned a degree.

Media suddenly interested in vetting candidates’ college years
By: Joe Cunningham (Diary)  |  February 11th, 2015 at 11:00 PM

Scott Walker has come from out of nowhere (if you weren’t paying attention), survived three elections in four years as a Republican in a blue state, and is making waves with statements and policies that drive the Left insane. However, there is one thing that makes Walker different from other potential presidential candidates – he never finished college. And, the college life of a presidential candidate didn’t seem to concern the media in 2008 when no one decided to vet Obama’s collegiate career or figure out what the hell he might have done (aside from drugs!) in college. In 2016, it suddenly matters.

Quote
Today, Walker, 47, is the governor of Wisconsin and a strong contender for the GOP’s 2016 presidential nomination. He is known for an astounding political hot streak: Since 1993, he has run 11 races for state legislature, county executive and governor — including a highly unusual recall election in 2012 — and he has won them all.

But before that streak came a string of defeats — the campus election, his failure to finish college and his first campaign for state office.

It’s funny. Barack Obama had absolutely no accomplishments prior to running for office, and we were told nothing of his educated life by a media whose job is supposed to be informing the public. Scott Walker, meanwhile, dropped out of college, gave a reason as to why, and it warrants a full investigation by the very same media that protected Obama’s past. The media, once again is showing a distinct bias, and will make no change no matter who calls it out or how loudly it is called out.

If you pay careful attention to the story, you’ll also notice how many times they talk about Scott Walker’s struggle to win office… prior to his becoming governor, when he thrashed WISCONSIN Democrats THREE TIMES in FOUR YEARS. This isn’t vetting. This is straight up trying to tear a man down for no other reason than he has defeated the side the media fights for time and again and is (probably) running for president.

I fully understand and even approve of the need to vet candidates who are running for the highest office in the land, or any office for that matter. The public needs to know the character of the person who will represent their will. But, the media chose not to do that for Barack Obama, and they are maliciously slinging mud against a man who hasn’t officially announced it yet. The bias is plain as day and, sadly, it’s unsurprising.

You think anyone will notice the disparate treatment between the young unknown Barack Obama and the young unknown Scott Walker? Nah. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

Infuriating, but entirely expected.

EXCLUSIVE — DONALD TRUMP: MSM INVESTIGATION INTO SCOTT WALKER’S COLLEGE A ‘DOUBLE STANDARD’

by MATTHEW BOYLE12 Feb 2015Washington, DC

Real estate magnate and reality television star Donald Trump, a potential 2016 GOP presidential candidate, tells Breitbart News it’s a “double standard” for the Washington Post to spend as much time and effort as it did investigating Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s college days, when reporters haven’t put much effort into investigating President Barack Obama’s background.

“Why didn’t they send a reporter over to Occidental and to Columbia and to the various Obama schools?” Trump said in a phone interview. “There’s never been a reporter over there. Nobody’s ever found anything. There’s no records available. Why didn’t send a reporter over to talk to the people from the schools he went to? It seems like a terrible double standard.”

When asked about how, six years deep now into the Obama administration, the president has been able to keep his college transcripts and records hidden from the American people, Trump said it’s largely because Obama spent millions in legal fees aiming to keep them hidden.

“They have nothing. They have nothing,” Trump said. “They don’t even have any records at all. They have no record of names. They have no record he went there. And of course the president spent $3.2 million to make sure they don’t have any records.”

In a story before the 2012 election, the Washington Times’ Dave Boyer wrote that, “most presidents’ academic records are made public by the time they reach the highest office in the land, either with their consent or by someone else digging them up.”

“There’s no reason why people shouldn’t know,” Stephen Hess, a senior fellow at the liberal Brookings Institution, told the Times then, imploring Obama to be transparent. “At this point, it’s pretty moot — perhaps amusing if it turned out that he didn’t do very well.”

Boyer wrote that, “whenever Team Obama is asked about the president’s college performance, officials dodge the question, obviously with Mr. Obama’s blessing.”

Specifically, the way Obama dodges the questions, Boyer added, is an orchestrated process.

“The White House press office refers such questions to campaign officials, who in turn refuse to provide any information,” Boyer wrote. “The Obama campaign didn’t respond to questions for this article.”

Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly has also called on the president to publicly release his college records.

“President Obama himself has a very compelling story to tell,” O’Reilly said on the O’Reilly Factor in early 2013.

Quote
His father abandoned him. He was raised primarily by his maternal grandparents in Hawaii. He had few resources. Yet, Barack Obama rose up to become the most powerful man in the world, a stunning achievement. How much the system helped Mr. Obama is unknown as his college records have been kept private. We don’t know the extent of affirmative action. We don’t know how much the government subsidized his climb to the top. It would be very helpful to have that information simply to be fair to the president and his vision. There’s no question President Obama believes his success is partly due to government. That goes to his famous line: “You didn’t build that.”

At the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in 2013, 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin remarked about Obama’s hidden background as well—in a joke about gun control efforts via more “background checks” for gun purchasers.

“Background checks?” Palin said on the stage. “Yeah, I guess to learn more about a person’s thinking and associations and intentions. More background checks? Dandy idea, Mr. President — should have started with yours.”

Because Obama is a rat.  The drive-by-media doesn't vet rats.

Big ups to Trump for pointing this out.
