Navy SEAL Dies During Parachute Training in Florida

Associated Press | Jan 12, 2015 | by Mike Hixenbaugh

A Navy SEAL stationed in Virginia Beach died Saturday during a parachute training exercise in Florida, the Navy confirmed Monday.

Petty Officer 1st Class William Blake Marston, 31 -- known to friends by his middle name -- died during the military training in DeLand, Fla. The Navy has opened an investigation into the accident, said Lt. David Lloyd, a Naval Special Warfare Group Two spokesman.

"The entire Naval Special Warfare community extends our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of our teammate, Blake," Lloyd wrote in a statement. "He will be missed by all who knew him."

According to the Union Leader of New Hampshire, Marston graduated in 2001 from Derryfield School in Manchester where he played baseball. He played second base for the Stonehill College baseball team and graduated from the college in 2007 with a degree in criminal justice and studio arts, the paper reported.

Marston enlisted in 2008 and completed SEAL training the following year, according to his Navy service record.
