A FATHER has barricaded himself inside a hospital in the US state of Texas with at least two hostages, after doctors reportedly tried to take his critically ill son off of life support.

Police are responding to the emergency situation at the Tomball Regional Medical Centre, north of Houston, which began around 7pm local time.

A Harris County Sheriff’s Office spokesman told the local news channel KPRC-TV that it was unclear if the man was armed.

Local reports have taken to Twitter to share details of the situation, saying the man is the father of a child in the critical care unit.

Doctors reportedly wanted to take the child off of life support, which is believed to have sparked the hostage situation.
