Emily and Jack were the most popular baby names on passport applications for children in Ireland last year.
Just over 53,000 passports were issued to children under the age of 3. Some 574 went to Jacks and 456 to Emilys.
Amelia and Lily entered the top 10 names for girls while traditional Irish names remain popular.
However Ireland's multiculturalism is also reflected with Zuzanna and Kacper the highest new entries.
(Fuller's note: at least it wasn't Mohammed.)

I clicked on this story with the trepidation that it might be Mohammed, and I'm delighted to see it is not! Jack and Emily are fine names!

Many many names have no singular national origin. For example,
Andrew-English,
Andrea-Spanish, Italian
Anders-Nordic, Germanic
Andreas-alternate Nordic, Germanic from Latin origins
I believe Andrew is also a Biblical name, but obviously the Bible was not in English.
So Jack is probably derived from John, or Jon, or Jan, or Juan, Johann etc.
