Peak Media Denial: Muslim Terrorism has No Motive

Posted By Daniel Greenfield On January 8, 2015 @ 12:12 pm In The Point | 26 Comments

We’ve finally reached peak apologetics. The only way to deny Muslim terrorism is to insist that murder has no motive.

Cue Vox’s Ezra Klein crossing that giant imaginary bridge from the West Bank to  Gaza that his sub-Salon site claims exists, to boldly deny reality.

“But this isn’t about Charlie Hebdo’s cartoons, any more than a rape is about what the victim is wearing, or a murder is about where the victim was walking,” Klein writes.

“What happened today, according to current reports, is that two men went on a killing spree. Their killing spree, like most killing sprees, will have some thin rationale. Even the worst villains believe themselves to be heroes. But in truth, it was unprovoked slaughter. The fault lies with no one but them and their accomplices. Their crime isn’t explained by cartoons or religion. Plenty of people read Charlie Hebdo’s cartoons and managed to avoid responding with mass murder. Plenty of people follow all sorts of religions and somehow get through the day without racking up a body count. The answers to what happened today won’t be found in Charlie Hebdo’s pages. They can only be found in the murderers’ sick minds.”

In Vox’s greatest achievement in its ongoing war against reality, Ezra Klein now asserts that motive doesn’t exist, that murderers are just crazy people and that dealing with their motives is as pointless as blaming Catcher in the Rye for the shooting of John Lennon.

Of course while a rape victim’s clothes may not be the motive, rape is. Ezra Klein’s logic is insisting that rape isn’t the motive for rape, but some unexplained phenomenon that we can’t possibly understand because it exists entirely in the perp’s head.

Klein has finally entered the world in which crime is purely solipsistic. Motive does not exist. Next he’ll claim that reality doesn’t exist so how we can we possibly even know that the Hebdo massacre took place.
