Bernie Kerik: Here's Proof the Bad Old Days Are Back

Over the past few weeks, as I watched the so-called “spontaneous” street protests after the deaths of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and Eric Garner, in Staten Island, N.Y., I wondered who was really orchestrating these demonstrations that at times succeeded in bringing several large cities to a virtual standstill and led to violent confrontations with police.
Were these really just idealistic young people drawn by messages on social media to take to the streets over what they thought was a grave injustice in the failure of grand juries to indict the police officers involved in the killings? Or was there a darker hand at work?
Where was it all coming from?
Then came the answer! As I reviewed photos of the demonstrators I soon noticed a pattern: Many of the protesters were holding anti-police placards with the web address Revcom.us – as in REVolutionary COMmununist Party USA.
Yes, in case you had any doubt, the bad old days are back and so are some of the same people involved in the violent movements from 30 and 40 years ago.
Many will remember that from the 1960s to the early 1980s a number of socialist or Marxist organizations took up arms against law enforcement authorities and were responsible for hundreds of bombings, robberies, aircraft hijackings, prison breaks and surveillance and assassinations of dozens of police officers across the country.
Most notorious were the Black Panther party, the Black Liberation Army and the Weather Underground, whose beliefs were anti-capitalism and Black Nationalism. Police classified these groups as domestic terrorist organizations.
Back then their venom could be seen on posters and flyers. The radicals created “wanted” posters, hanging them in Harlem and other areas of New York City, calling for the murders of individual police and federal agents involved in investigations against them.
Today, former Black Panther supporter Bob Avakian is the man behind many of last month's protests - a political activist and now the head of the Revolutionary Communist Party. A man that back in the 60s, authored an autobiography titled: From Ike to Mao and Beyond: My Journey from Mainstream America to Revolutionary Communist.
A man whose website denounces “police murder,” but promotes a revolution against the U.S., a new communist manifesto and a constitution for the New Socialist Republic in North America.
(AP Photo)If you wanted more evidence the bad old days are back just listen to Baltimore police Commissioner Anthony Batts who announced on Tuesday that his department had intercepted a suspected terrorist, armed with a loaded .22-caliber pistol, carrying out a reconnaissance mission at a Baltimore police station, looking to test its security.
The man admitted to being a member of the Black Guerilla Family (BGF), an African-American Marxist revolutionary prison gang active in California and Maryland.
Since its formation in San Quentin State Prison in 1966, the group has developed into a highly-organized gang that resembles a paramilitary organization, according to gangs.org an information website partially supported by the U.S. Department of Justice.
For me it’s the 60s and 70s all over again. The protests, the anti-cop and racist rhetoric, the threats against, and attacks on police, the recon missions of police stations, and the execution of New York City two cops, sitting innocently in the car, murdered only because they wore a uniform.
It’s time to stand up and tell the truth, to identify those responsible for inciting these so called protests that are meant for no other reason than to intimidate, threaten and harass the general public, stir on a revolution, make death threats and attacks on our local, state and federal law enforcement authorities.
