Brilliant film composer.  Huge loss for the industry.

Horner did wonderful work.

I have often thought that those who compose for film are some of the most creative composers writing music today.
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

I don't know why updatednews.ca published this today unless it's some kind of joke. Andy Griffith is dead, alright. He died July 3, 2012.

LOL!  Thanks for pointing that out!  I remember now when he died.  I'm going to delete it.

It's OK. The same thing happened to Rue McClanahan a couple weeks ago. She's been dead five years.

Burt Shavitz, beekeeper who founded Burt's Bees, dies at 80

Burt's Bees started by chance -- Shavitz, a bearded beekeeper who sold honey from a roadside stand, pulled over one day in 1984 to pick up hitchhiker Roxanne Quimby. The two hit it off, and Quimby started making candles from Shavitz's beeswax.

The pair made $200 at their first craft fair selling the candles, and within a year, pulled in $20,000, according to a company timeline. Soon, they started making all kinds of other products -- featuring Shavitz's face and beard on the labels -- including Burt's Bees' iconic beeswax lip balm.

Burt's Bees was sold for $1 billion to Clorox in 2007.

Stabler was a fun guy to watch. That is too young to end it; e.g. age 69 when my father died sadly.

At the time (1967), Sharif was much criticized in the Muslim press for kissing Jewess and outspoken Zionist  Barbara Streisand in the film Funny Girl.

I have often wondered how he was able to do that without upchucking.

Stage actor Roger Rees dies at 71

Welsh actor Roger Rees played numerous roles on Broadway and in London stage shows, his most acclaimed work from that field being the title role of The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, an eight-hour play. Less known in the U.S., he did have some roles, including the villainous "Sheriff of Rottingham" in Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Robin Colcord on Cheers and Thomas Paine in a PBS production of Liberty! The American Revolution. He continued to act until shortly before his death from a brief, unspecified illness.

A naturalized U.S. citizen and convert to Judaism, Rees is survived by his same-sex spouse, playwright Rick Elice.

[float=right][/float]Jim Ed Brown, country singer, dies at 81

Fuller's note: This happened a month ago but it appears I didn't catch it when it happened.

Brown had a string of success in the country music field that stretched from 1954 to 1967 as a member of a singing family; when his sisters retired, he continued with a solo career, which also had a string of hits. He retired from recording music in 1981 and shifted his efforts to television, maintaining a live performance schedule until shortly before his death. At the time of his death, he was hosting the Country Music Greats Radio Hour. He died June 11, just over a week after going public with a diagnosis of lung cancer. The Country Music Hall of Fame rushed to induct him before his death.

[float=right][/float]Van Miller, dean of Western New York sportscasters, dies at 87

Miller began his career at tiny AM 1410 in his hometown of Dunkirk, New York. From there, he moved onto Buffalo, where he quickly took root at WBEN radio and TV as a weather and sports anchor. His work earned the attention of Dick Gallagher, the general manager of the newly formed Buffalo Bills of the American Football League, and when the Bills took the field in 1960, the team chose Miller as its play-by-play voice. He held the position for the team's first eleven seasons, then (after another station won the Bills broadcast rights) came back seven years later and called the Bills for another 26 years. His exuberant, but steady, style (more subdued than his hockey counterpart Rick Jeanneret, but still excitable enough to coin such phrases as "fandemonium" and "fasten your seatbelts" that remain part of the Buffalonian lexicon) made him a favorite on NFL Films broadcasts (it didn't hurt that Jeff Kaye, a colleague of Miller's, also worked at NFL Films).

Miller also had a long association with basketball, calling games for Niagara University during the days of Calvin Murphy in the late 1960s, the Buffalo Braves (where he was so close with Braves coach Jack Ramsay that Miller reportedly gave him advice on substitutions) in the 1970s, and later college basketball games on the upstart Empire Sports Network in the early 1990s.

Miller suffered a large of health problems in his last years of life stemming from aging, leading to his death this past Friday, July 17.

E. L. Wrestling legend "Rowdy" Roddy Piper has died at the age of 61 ... TMZ Sports has learned.

Piper -- born Roderick George Toombs -- died from cardiac arrest in his sleep at his home in Hollywood on Thursday night. He was discovered on Friday.

Piper was a wrestling icon -- one of the biggest stars in the WWE back in the '80s, and even wrestled in "Wrestlemania I" back in 1985 ... squaring off against Hulk Hogan and Mr. T.

Roddy's rep tells us, "I am devastated at this news. Rod was a good friend as well as a client and one of the most generous, sincere and authentic people I have ever known. This is a true loss to us all."

Piper had been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2006, but last November he said he was cancer free. A family source tells us he was "cancer free" at the time of his death.

A family member tells us, "Our family is saddened by the sudden passing of our father and beloved husband, Roderick Toombs aka Rowdy Roddy Piper."

Roddy was admitted into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2005 and was one of the top 50 villains in the history of the WWE.

Piper had a long relationship with WWE -- last wrestling back in 2008 ... but appeared on various WWE shows up until 2014.

Roddy is survived by his wife Kitty and their 4 kids -- including 3 daughters and son Colton who's pursuing a career in professional wrestling.
