Thank you. I got hauled out to do the last of the food shopping for Christmas.

From your link:

Veteran officer Charles "Charlie K" Kondek was shot and killed around 3 a.m. near 199 Grand Boulevard, a few blocks from the city's Sponge Docks. The 45-year-old 18-year veteran of the department was a father of five and former New  York City policeman.

The Tarpon Springs Police Department released the officer's name on its Facebook page around 11:15 a.m., saying "our hearts and prayers go out to the Kondek Family and our deepest sympathy."

Investigators are also working a nearby second scene on Athens Street, where the shooter fled in a white Hyundai sedan. The shooter crashed into a power pole and snapped it and then crashed into a pickup truck, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Cecila Barreda said.

How many police officers are killed each year?  Of that number, how many knew their assailant?  IOW, was it family related or socially related?

IOW, is this death in anyway related to a mindset of the killer of two NYC politic officers?  Or is it a case of 'shit happens'?

The very fact that it has taken this long to get any information on the accused is indicative that someone is trying to keep a lid on a boiling cauldron.

The FBI has those statistics readily available on their website.  It barely breaks 3 digits, something like 107 for 2012.  That's total number which includes car crashes, drownings, shootings, all of it.
Unfortunately, there was a time that badge represented the society we live in.  If one were killed, it was a piece of us.  When unions got involved, there was a marked shift in mentality.
Why?  Well, because I'm a bastard, that's why.

I wonder what percentage of killings of cops, are done by blacks? My prediction: It is significantly greater than the 13 percent that blacks make up of the total population.

Therefore the statistic is probably difficult to locate, if it exists at all.

Police were originally called out for a noise ordinance complaint as the suspect was banging on residential doors, WTSP reports.

Looks like it was a "normal" shooting.
