Homeschool Parents Tasered, Pepper Sprayed, Kids Seized Due to Messy House

How neat and clean do you keep your home? Often with several school aged kids in the house, it’s not always easy to keep an immaculate home. I’ll be the first admit that our house is not one of those spotless showcase homes you see on TV. We work and play from home and my wife sews, quilts and crafts and we have 3 dogs who love their toys.
But is keeping a supposedly messy home a valid reason for police to raid a home, use tasers and pepper spray on the parents while child social services snatch the children and take them into state custody?
Evidently in Missouri it is.
Jason and Laura Hagan live in the small town of New Hampton, Missouri and they homeschool their three children who range in age from 8 to 12 in the town of only 300 people. Somehow, Child Protective Services received a report that the Hagan house was messy and sent agents to investigate.
The Hagans complied with the first investigation and submitted to an in-home inspection. When child services returned for a second visit, the Hagans refused to allow them into the house. After being turned away, the social service worker contacted the local sheriff’s department and asked for assistance in gaining entrance to the home. What happened next should outrage you.

“When Captain David Glidden showed up on the front doorstep of the Hagan’s home demanding to be let in, both parents denied his request. Both Jason and Laura allege in their complaint that Glidden proceeded to use pepper spray on them because they would not comply to his demand for entry.”
“‘Glidden then turned to Jason, who was still standing, and shot him in the back with his Taser,’ the filed complaint reads.”
“According to the legal document, Jason’s wife, Laura, then tried to close the front door, when Glidden fired his Taser in the direction of the closing door. This was when Sheriff White entered into the escalating situation.”
“‘Together they forced open the door and found Laura and Jason lying on the floor,’ HSLDA attorneys said, recounting the scene.”
“The account given by HSLDA alleges that both Sheriff White and Captain Glidden ‘slapped Laura, knocking the glassed [look] off of her face.’ It is reported that at this point, the Nodaway police officers threatened that they would shoot the Hagan’s dog.”
“Not ending there, the law enforcement officials then called Laura a ‘liar’ before throwing a phone across the room and handcuffing both her and her husband.”
“It is also reported that the entire episode with the police occurred in front of the couple’s three 8- to 12-year-old children, who were placed in custody for ‘months’ after the traumatic event.”
Jason and Laura Hagan were arrested and charged with resisting arrest and child endangerment. The couple turned to the Homeschool Legal defense Association (HSLDA) for legal assistance.
When their trail went to court, the judge stated:
“The court will not allow [an] exception to sanction warrantless entry into a private residence by pepper spray and Taser. If the officer had a warrant in hand and such force was necessary, that is a different story, but those are not the facts of this case.”
In dismissing the charges against the Hagans, the judge said that no charges should have ever been filed and that such behavior by law enforcement officials will not be tolerated.
With the help of HSLDA, the Hagans have now filed a lawsuit against the sheriff’s department for violating their constitutional rights. The lawsuit asked for punitive and compensatory damages due to the ordeal along with their attorney fees. James Manson, attorney with HLSDA commented about the lawsuit, saying:
“We need to be vigilant … We need to be willing to stand up for our rights. [The] rules apply to them, too.”
What happened to the Hagans is happening to more and more homeschooling families as our socialist government does everything in their power to funnel all kids through their socialist training program known as public school. The last thing they want is for parents to homeschool their kids and teach them the truth about America and our Christian heritage. They don’t want parents teaching the kids to think differently than how the government wants them to think.
With growing boldness, various government agents and officials are bullying homeschooling parents without concern for the constitutional rights of the parents or children. Their goal is to frighten and intimidate homeschoolers to put their kids back into the public propaganda schools.
As long as liberal control gains strength in America, we can expect more reports of incidents like this. Parents need to be aware of what their rights are and who to turn to when those rights are being violated.
