There's something truly terrifying about liberals.
That is not hyperbole: There really is something truly terrifying about liberals. They deem themselves the keepers of the moral good, with only their goals and aspirations worthy, so they don't care a bit about how they achieve them.
For liberals, the ends justify the means — always.
And that's terrifying. To liberals, all conservatives or moderates or libertarians — everyone who does not think exactly like them — are stupid. They simply don't understand the complexities of the world, can't possibly fathom them, or else they would be liberal! It's that simple: If you're not liberal, you're stupid.
To liberals, conservatives want to destroy the environment, murder old people and make sure all children are poorly educated. Oh, and conservatives want women either pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen or in a back alley with a coat hanger. To the intelligentsia that makes up the liberal masses, the "tolerance" they chant as mantra does not apply to anyone who thinks differently from them.
What's more, most nonliberals live in "flyover" country — they're not even smart enough to live in cities like Los Angeles or New York. Thus, they're hayseeds living in the backwater boonies. Every conservative is a yokel who dropped out of high school and works at his uncle's auto shop, probably welding pieces of metal together all day and getting drunk on Schlitz Malt Liquor at night.
The second-most-pretentious throng among the liberal class (college professors are No. 1) are liberal politicians and those who do their bidding. They insist that only they know "the one true way," and, worse, they believe that achieving their goals at any cost is justifiable given the stupidity of the masses.
Not often do we get a glimpse behind their facade of "tolerance," but just such a peek came last week with the discovery of taped comments of a chief architect of Obamacare, Jonathan Gruber. The MIT health economist who helped write portions of the Affordable Care Act spoke candidly about how top Obama officials employed devious tactics to circumvent what he dubbed the "stupidity of the American voter."
"This bill was written in a tortured way to make sure [the Congressional Budget Office] did not score the mandate as taxes," Mr. Gruber said in a speech to a health economist conference last year. "If CBO scored the mandate as taxes, the bill dies. OK, so it's written to do that. In terms of risk-rated subsidies, if you had a law which said that healthy people are going to pay in — you made explicit healthy people pay in and sick people get money — it would not have passed."
So Team Obama lied, and the Supreme Court, upholding Congress' authority to enact taxes, upheld the law. The administration also withheld some of the most damaging details of Obamacare. "Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage," he said. "And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really, really critical for the thing to pass."
That's right, a chief architect of Obamacare said only by pretending the new higher fees for health care weren't "taxes," and then by blocking transparency for "political advantage," could they pass the law. But they did it for the good of all those "stupid" Americans. "Look, I wish we could make it all transparent," Mr. Gruber said, "but I'd rather have this law than not."
Now top liberals are lying about what they knew and when they knew it. On Sunday, President Obama, traveling in Asia, said, "I just heard about this." But that's not true. Mr. Gruber says the president was in the room when the architects figured out how to mask the new taxes. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi says of Mr. Gruber: "I don't know who he is. He didn't help write our bill." But that also isn't true, as The Washington Times detailed last week.
The White House, as it always does, sought to deflect and distract — and blame Republicans. "It is Republicans who have been less than forthright and transparent about their proposed changes to the Affordable Care Act," said Obama spokesman Josh Earnest.
And, as always, Mr. Gruber blamed successful Americans for being greedy, saying doctors are now like "investment bankers" living in the "Hamptons [or] the Cape" — not far where Mr. Obama vacations every year. Mr. Gruber, though, did not mention that he has banked more than $4 million selling the new law and telling states how to navigate the "tortured" statute he helped craft.
The Supreme Court may soon review the law now that a Court of Appeals has thrown out a key IRS regulation that helps the federal government dole out Obamacare subsidies. Chances are they won't like the purposeful lack of transparency, the ends-justify-the-means mentality or government officials who think the American people are "stupid."
