Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., at a hearing on Friday asked a top White House official why, of all people, did President Obama appoint a political operative to deal with the Ebola crisis.

One of the hearing’s witnesses, Health and Human Services Assistant Secretary Nicole Lurie, is far more qualified to handle the Ebola response, Gowdy noted.

Why then, did Obama appoint Ron Klain, a man with no medical experience or background, to deal with the government's response to the deadly virus?

"Why in the hell did the president pick a lawyer to be the Ebola czar and not you?" the South Carolina congressman asked Lurie.

"Right now I have a full time job," Lurie responded, noting that she trusts Klain’s abilities.

The HHS official also said that among Klain’s duties will be coordinating the response with the whole of the federal government.

We just witnessed how damaging even a losing Warren bid could be to Hillary's candidacy
