The Obama administration is imposing new limits on travelers coming to the U.S. from Ebola-affected countries in Africa, requiring that such visitors fly into one of the five major international airports conducted special screening for the deadly virus.
“All passengers arriving in the United States whose travel originates in Liberia, Sierra Leone or Guinea will be required to fly into one of the five airports that have the enhanced screening and additional resources in place,” Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said. “We are working closely with the airlines to implement these restrictions with minimal travel disruption.”
The airports which will accept travelers originating in the Ebola-affected countries are New York’s JFK, Newark, Dulles, Atlanta and Chicago.
There are no direct flights from Liberia, Sierra Leone or Guinea to the U.S.
The move comes as the White House is under pressure from many Republican lawmakers and some Democrats to implement a ban on foreigners traveling to the U.S. from the region at the heart of the Ebola outbreak.
